How do I know which class to sign up for? – Are you going to do general renovation and you just think you might run into Lead because of the age of the building? Or perhaps someone has told you there “might be” or “probaby is’ lead paint or dust in the property? Then the class you need is RRP or if you are in Vermont RRP/M. 80% of our students take this class. you need this certification even if you are doing lead abatement work.

Any person disturbing paint in a house or child occupied facility built before 1978 needs RRP (RRP/M in VT) training. This is a federal law, and fines are as high as $40,000 per violation if you are caught violating this law

Do you have an order from the state of New Hampshire that says you must work on your building because a child was poisoned there? Then you need lead abatement which is a three-day class for workers and a four-day class for supervisors. (more on this below)

How do I use a free or discount coupon code? – Just register for the class of your choice. Fill out all the information. When you get to the payment page, there will be a place to put in a code. Adding the code will automatically adjust the price.

How do I buy someone a gift class? – We have a special page for that – our Holiday Special is 20% off until the 20th! So visit this page to buy a gift for someone. https://lead-edu.info/egift/ Once you buy through this page, we can switch your student to a different class if the one you buy is not the right one. Also, you just pick the class – then when they get their gift, they can select the best date for them to actually take the class either online or in person or hybrid.

Why do you ask me if you can send me emails when I register? – To combat Spam, it is a requirement of the FCC that we ask permission before we send you emails as we might be sending you marketing emails. As part of the registration process, we will send you an “autoresponder” email which will confirm your class date and time. If it’s a hybrid or e-learning class, you will get the code to log into the class. If it’s an in-person class, you will get the address and any parking instructions. You will also get a copy of the slides we will use in the presentation, a copy of the textbook and several helpful handouts, charts, and checklists. You will want to say “yes” to our emails to obtain this useful information. Then you are automatically subscribed to our newsletter which we send once or twice a month to update you on changes in the law, interesting news stories around lead, fines, recalls, etc. We will also include information about our classes and other events we may sponsor. If you wish to unsubscribe, you
can do that from any email that we send you – and this will automatically take you off our list. Once you have unsubscribed, we cannot put you back on the list – only you can do that. A very important note! If you are signing up someone else to take a class (your employee, friend, coworker, partner etc.) you MUST give us their email address and phone number so that they get this important information before the day of the class. Many people miss or are late for class because the autoresponder went to the office instead of to the student.

What is elearning? – This is a class where the student takes the class on a computer, tablet, or phone, working independently without instructor involvement. They register and pay and get a login and take the class whenever and wherever works for them! When they have completed the class, they get a certificate.

What is a Hybrid class? – This is where the lecture portion of the class is on zoom, and that’s about 3/4 of the class time. Then, on a different day, you meet with the instructor for an hour, or a couple of hours, or a day, depending on the class, and there you do some practical hands-on work, and you take a test. Once you have completed both the zoom and the “hands on” portion, you are certified.

What if I’m a property owner in Vermont? Or an Uncompensated Childcare Owner? Does the RRP class cover that certification? – YES! The RRP certification plus the IRC two-hour free online training will get you the RRP/M certification necessary for the IRC Property Owner requirements and uncompensated childcare owner (UCCO) requirements. We will provide links to those resources and answer questions in class. https://www.healthvermont.gov/environment/asbestos-lead/inspection-repair-and-cleaning-irc-practices-certification-training

More about RRP or RRP/M – If you just work around old homes and you think that you should probably have a lead certification because you’ve heard that you need one. That is correct! Epa says anyone disturbing paint in a house built before 1978 is required to have a one-day RRP certification. The state of Vermont has added some regulations that also require an additional two hour free online training along with the RRP training and that makes it RRP/M.. Just sign up for the regular RRP class, and the instructor will go over this portion of it in class for both Vermont and New Hampshire students.

More about Abatement – If your goal is to remove all the lead from the property or permanently cover it, then you are looking for an abatement class which is a three-day class for workers and a four-day class for supervisors. One individual person working alone must be a supervisor. Workers can never be left alone on the job site without a supervisor present. If you are taking an abatement class to do work on your own property, you need the supervisor class because workers cannot be left alone on the job site in an abatement situation.

What if I want to work for one of the HUD grant programs? Which training do I need? – In all cases if you want to work for a HUD grant program you will need an abatement training certificate. HUD requires that we use abatement workers and supervisors in these programs.

Once I take your class, what do I have to do to be registered with the state of New Hampshire? – If you’re taking the RRP class, there is no additional state of New Hampshire registration. Although you will have to register with the EPA and we will show you how to do that. It’s very easy but there is a $300 fee which covers you for five years. That fee is for the company not for the individual renovator. The individual renovator just needs to take this class.

If you are taking the abatement class and you want to be registered as a New Hampshire abatement contractor, the supervisor training will go over how to register your business, and the worker training will go over how to register you as a worker. Workers have no additional testing. They simply have to pass the course, fill out a form and pay a fee to be licensed as workers in the state. Supervisors, however, will be required to go to Concord and take two tests. A 100 question EPA exam, and a 25-question state of New Hampshire exam. Our class will get you ready to pass those exams. There is no fee to take the exam but once you take it there will be a fee to be licensed with the state. Abatement licenses expire and must be renewed every year. You must take a one-day refresher class, which we offer online, in order to keep your license current. You do not ever have to take the 125-question test again, as long as you keep a current license. If you take the hundred question test in New Hampshire, it will be recognized in Vermont as well because it’s national and authorized by the EPA. If you’ve taken this exam in Vermont, or some other state, you can simply provide proof of that. If you take the EPA exam in New Hampshire, you can also transfer that score to Vermont, or other states that recognize the national EPA exam. You will not have to take it twice in order to work in New Hampshire and Vermont (and Maine and Mass etc.).

Once I take your class, what do I have to do to be registered with the state of Vermont? – If you are taking the RRP class from us, we will ask you if you’re going to be licensed in Vermont. If you are, your class will also cover the additional Vermont regulations, and the IRC link to that training will be provided to be sure that you’ve covered everything you need to be licensed in Vermont. You will then fill out forms with the asbestos and lead program and you will be licensed to do RRP/M work on your properties and childcare facilities, as well as client’s properties in the state. If you are going to work in the state of Vermont as an abatement supervisor or worker, you are required to take the four-day class (three days for workers), and then supervisors will go to Burlington and take the 100 question EPA exam. If you’ve taken this exam in New Hampshire or some other state, you can simply provide proof of that. If you take the EPA exam in Vermont, you can also transfer that score to New Hampshire or other states that recognize the national EPA exam. You will not have to take it twice in order to work in New Hampshire and Vermont.
